Time to update that family photo!
Let me guess… either the thought of this makes your head spin in a tizzy with ‘what can I wear? What if the kids don’t behave! I’ll wait until the next family occasion to get someone to snap us…
STOP! Right there!! Get yourself a cuppa and read on for the next 2 minutes. I promise, it’s worth it.
The family portrait is something so valuable, it’s the only thing that gains value as the years go on. You’ll look back and thank me when you see your little people in that image. Let’s time travel… it’s 10 years from now.. Those blonde curls and innocent faces have faded and now you have a teenager in the house! Another 10 years, heading away to college… Time passes by so fast, do we even notice it go?
As a professional photographer, I understand the importance of updating my family portrait every year. Each year I notice a change in my little guy and I’m so grateful that I was able to look back at that photo.
Another important thing is that I’ve also lost images on my phone from when I was pregnant with Rory and in his first few months. My heart aches every time I think of it. But what relieves my pain is looking up from my phone and seeing his professional newborn image on my mantelpiece. By having these few milestone images around my house, I am grateful knowing that if I was to lose my digital images to the cloud or however they’re stored, at least I have the good old fashioned framed photos around my home.
By getting into a routine of an annual family image, you see progression in your family and you stop the nagging feeling in the back of your head thinking ‘I should really get these photos printed’, or ‘what happens if I lose my phone!’ We are all guilty of hoarding thousands of repeated photos of day to day things, like funny things our kids do, but we rarely print them nowadays. Back in the day, to get our images off our camera we had to print them, and that’s now lost due to instant images on our screen. But, if you keep them on your screen, what's to say they’ll be there forever? Don’t you want to look up from your screen?
With that, I’ll leave you to tuck away your phone, scoop up your kids, and bound excitedly to your partner to let them know you’re going to book everyone in for that photoshoot you’ve been meaning to do for a long time now.
Ps, don’t worry about how the kids will behave or what you’ll look like, with our experience you wont realise your best photos are being taken and we are great at angles to show the best side off!
